So it''s offical, Doris is in Korea. (And doing well so far!) Yesterday was hard. As per usual fashion we got home and cleaned thoroughly downstairs and moved things around... Made some more room for Jayda and threw some things out.
Yesterday afternoon Jayda thought we should start a 500 peice puzzle... The hardest one I''ve ever put together! between 4 of us and a batch of cookies later, we had it finished in 6 hours! Pictures to follow.
It was really nice to have Jayda and Renee over - the house didn''t seem nearly as empty - until bed time.
Doris - we wish you all the best in Korea - take them by storm. Remember we miss you and can''t wait for your return!
So in less than 12 hours we will have left Doris at the airport! Today we and a few other people went to a pub downtown for a late lunch and had a blast with everyone. It will be really weird tomorrow coming home to an empty house.
I have decided for Tym''s sake, I am no longer allowed to be with her unsupervised. For 3 weeks straight now I''ve done something incredibly klutzy to hurt myself. First it was tripping going downstairs and crashing my hand into the wall - subsequently bruising it and needing to take a day off work. The following week, I picked up a metal aromatherapy candle holder that had been burning for an hour -subsequently burning and blistering all my fingertips and needing to take a day off work. Did I mention it was ON THE SAME HAND that I had hit the wall with? And just this morning, I took a corner too sharply and smashed by toe into the corner of our staircase. Did I mention that it is the same toe I almost broke last year?!?! I don''t plan on taking the day off work for fear of my co-workers laughing at me!Thank god things come in threes!
We went to clinic Tuesday - Ty is now 18lbs!! A big girl! The nurse gave me a few suggestions regarding Chomp and Chomper coming in, as I was getting a little tender! And they seem to be working, or Ty just isn''t clamping down as much! YAY!! Thankfully it is nothing like when we were first learning how to nurse, and the toe clenching pain! Now that Ty is getting use to something else in her mouth, I think she is working around them better.
As for Chomp and Chomper (as Meag fondly calls them) they are slowly coming up. You can feel them both and they are sharp! You can''t quite see them yet, if she will let you look in her mounth! Hopefully they will be fully in before Aunty leaves Sunday.
Crawling is the next thing... She is moving backwards quite well. She can move a few feet in a matter of less than a minute if she wants to. Combine that with rolling and she can end up in a different direction and place in minutes. It''s cute to watch! Also means ALWAYS watching :)
The nurse also said not to worry about the fact that she is not interested in food. We are lucky to get a small teaspoon in her every night. As I thought - just to continue on and do it so she gets use to it, and knows that it''s there. One day she will be interested... She liked pears better than she likes her apples!
So I finally have the time to update as I should. We had a very interesting and wonderful Sunday. For awhile now I''ve been telling Deah that we should try and find a church/spiritual group - not only for us but to have a good base for Tym. We had heard alot of the Unitarian Church so off we went with Jayda in tow. It was really cool to say the least. I felt very welcomed and not over-powered with God (as there was no mention of God at all - again right up my alley). It is very community based, friendly, open and accepting, and spiritualy based versus rooted in God and His word being the end all and be all. It is definatly a place that I am looking forward to going back to.
After "church" we started preparations for PePe''s Fondue Day. We did all three courses (cheese, meat/veggies, and chocolat) and gourged ourselves with wine and food. Tym was a pure delight "eating" with us all day long and well into the night. It''s hard to think that Doris is leaving Sunday. As exciting as it is, there is underlying sadness as Korea is SO FAR AWAY!!! But whenever Tym is missing her Auntie PePe, all she''ll have to do is run her hand over PePe''s fish in her room and she''ll be right there.
So we are driving to Mimi''s for supper, and I hear "Holy SHIT" from the backseat. Meag was in the back entertaing Ty as the drive entailed a stop at the market for veggies. I think there is something hugely wrong!
I was right!
Someone is getting 2 teeth!! Meag had her finger in Ty''s mouth - again playing the chew toy that we are - and as she pulled her finger out there was something sharp on the gums!
So upon further inspection - there are 2 teeth that are starting to break the surface! They are not ''up'' yet, but there are pushing the surface and boy are they sharp!
So apparently the little talks I''ve been having with Ty about growing to fast are not sticking! She is ''almost'' crawling and cutting 2 teeth!
As for the crawling, if you leave her on the floor, she will totally re-locate herself several feet behind her. She hasn''t started moving hand, foot, hand, foot - more a pushing with hands.
A glorious day off for me as I pulled two back to back days of 6+ hours of massage. My hands could certainly use the rest and I could certainly use a little Tym Time. I just made it home last night to see/play with her before bed. She is so sute with naked time now. It''s like a rush of energy hits her for 20 minutes or so and then crash - she''s ready for bed NOW!
Even though it''s a day off for me, we''re still awfully busy. We are off to Ikea to take care of some much needed shelving/storage options to baby proof the house. Than off to get Tym some desperatly needed sleepers as she is almost out of all her current ones. Perhaps I will treat my family to a yummy Thai lunch (though that might be a bit much for Tym - I think she''ll like the pears better!), and then off to sale shop at the mall. It''ll be nice just to hang out with Deah and Tym since I''ve missed them so much.
Ty is finally starting to feel better! Her nose is still running a bit, but all in all she''s back to being herself!
So far she is not very fond of food. Squash, carrots, sweetpotatoes and now pears. Pears is definatly the one she likes the best, but I think she would still rather not be having something shoved in her mouth!
She is almost mobile! When she is sitting, Ty is starting to lunge forward - and can get a bit of airtime! It''s unfortunate that most of the time she lands on her head right now! Most of the playing time is done on the bed for this reason! She can''t quite get her legs to move with her hands, but soon!
What a weekend!! Doris went home to Sudbury to visit the family 1 last time before she leaves, and we had all these great plans or organizing the house while she was gone... And well we all felt like trains were running us over instead. So not 1 bin got organized, the only thing that got done was the shelves were put up in Ty''s room - and that''s only because Jayda came over and helped :)
As Meag said, we had a wonderful feast with everyone over on Sunday - even though it was a lot of work, and I felt like crap, it was still wonderful.
We are all on the mend... Ty is not as cranky - even though she is still really stuffy, so I think she''s starting to feel better. I can finally breath a little better so it''s all good!
Not to much planned for this week - just trying to mend.
So to all of you we did not get to see this lovely weekend - Happy Thanksgiving! You should come for the fest next year!!
Sitting here digesting WAY too much food listening to my poor wife sneeze her head off upstairs as she tries to sleep. I guess having a sick kid attached to you is a great way to quickly pick up a cold. Thankfully I am feeling so much better than yesturday (Cold FX - best "drug" on the market!!!) and am able to play nurse to Deah a bit.
I was struck by how much can change in 365 days as I looked around our dinner table tonight. Old friends from years past that joined us once again, new friends feasting with our family for the first time, and 2 little futures learning their way through the world with us as their guidance. So much to be thankful for, yet unsure where to start. Thank you to my personal family for their love and help through Deah''s pregnancy and the uncertainty around Tym''s birth. Thank you to my urban family for their unconditional love and embracing of my daughter. Thank you to Scott for not bringing parsnips tonight. Thank you to Jayda for giving Deah and I a very much needed hour to ourselves today. Thank you to Beth, Jesse and Annie for being such great new friends and giving Tym a cool little buddy to grow up with. Thank you to Wade for braving the cold yesturday and going to the market early. Thank you to Deah for just being you. And thank you to Tym for showing me a love that has no match in fierceness and gentleness.
Ty has her first cold :( Runny nose, hard time breathing.
She came down with it yesterday - I noticed her nose about an hour before Meag called from work - sounding like real crap! The baby got it from her! So right now, Meag is watching hockey drinking her Neo-Citron with a stuffy baby sleeping on her. Overall she has been handling the cold wonderfully being her first. She''s a little more cranky than usual, but not to bad. Didn''t really nap today but that''s ok.
This morning we went to the Carp Farmers market with Wade and Nadia, and it was COLD OUT!!! It was like 6 degrees! 2 days ago it was 31 and now 6 - how does that work?!?!
Congrats go out to Wade!! He was offered a new job!! Working with Dell Cdn who''s opening a call center here!! YAY!!! He''s also got a test to take with the gov to maybe get placed!! Good luck hun!!
We are excited about turkey day tomorrow - as usual we are having a fest with everyone over, should be a good day :)
Ty is in her team sleeper - Hockey has officially started! It''s crazy how excited Meag is about it. It''s cute to watch. However, last year''s break was nice!!
Anyway - Meag came home from work today and floored me and Doris - with a hair cut! It''s short! It looks great!!! Way to cut off 6 inches!
So it''s getting more and more real that Doris is leaving - she''s got her ticket to Korea. She leaves the 23rd. it will be weird without her - but I think the experience is going to be wonderful for her.
Ty has been a handufl the last few days - a real grump - I figure it''s because of her teeth, poor thing!
So I found something that helps her yesterday - a whole carrot cool from the fridge!! She loves chewing it! If it works, let''s go :)
Swimming has been going great. We went and got her 6 month pictures done today - of course she didn''t smile once!! Oh well - we have loads of her smiling anyway.
Tomorrow morning we are going to St Laurent mall and participating in the Breastfeeding Challenge. They are trying to get a huge amount of breastfeeding moms together and bring about awareness - and break a record. Should be fun to be with all the other moms.
