On the mend... No one has vomitted in the house in over 12 hours... YAY us! We are on the 6th load of laundry washed in very hot water. I had my first real meal this morning since Monday - and so far it''s still in me! :)
The baby is sleeping peacefully. Hopefully she''s mending well while doing it.
I think the house is on it''s way to being healthy again....
Not a fun 48 hours... First I was the only one sick... Tym went to sleep like a dream lastnight at her regular bedtime - first time in over a week... I had a gut feeling as I was leaving the room - and went back to check on her - she was starting to vomit. Everywhere. For 6 hours. In the middle of that Jayda came home from a friend''s house and started as well.
We have copious amounts of sheets and towels to wash in very hot water today. So far the only ones not effected by this nasty bug are Meag and Tony (who''s only been here for 19 hours or so). I ''think'' I am starting to feel better.. I just had something small to eat, for the first time in 2 days, we shall see how I do!
As of right now everyone else is still sleeping peacefully... I think the vomitting is done. I hope. And I hope Tym doesn''t get the really bad cramping diarrehea....
We went to Toronto on Friday - Meag had to work so me and Tym decided to go enjoy TO Pride again this year! :) It was a blast. There are pictures from Saturday morning going down to Family Pride with Jesse, Beth and Annie - then the Dyke March. During which Tym didn''t stop waving the whole time we marched. The thousands of people were clearly there just to see her!
At family pride we got to meet in-real life Kwynne, Plumpbetty and their 8 week old LeAndre! It was nice to finally meet them. Maybe when we are in the city for longer we will get to spend more time with them.
Sunday we had lunch with Diane and Liz who were there for Pride. As Meag went to work the girls and I went to another friends room to watch the parade from their balcony - since we didn''t have doors to get onto ours!
At some point Sunday my cell phone dissapeared. We''ve called it and no one is answering :(
We came back Monday - the day was going crazy until we were about 3 blocks from the house and Tym threw up everywhere in her car seat :( Poor thing. I guess Swiss Chalet didn''t agree with her.
Since then I came down with a stomach flu or something early Tuesday morning and haven''t felt good since.
On a good note - Tony arrives in 3.5 hours! And he''s here for 2 weeks! It should be a blast.
So that''s the quick recap - sorry it took so long!
What a whirlwind weekend in Toronto we had! Lots of fun, laughs, a few small tantrums (from myself and Tym) with pics to follow - as soon as we get them from Beth and Jesse. We realized we had forgotten the camera half way to T.O., but made up for it by loosing Deah''s cell phone somewhere in T.O. Thanks to Beth and Jesse for capturing some family moments for us!
I was examining at the Massage License Exams again so Deah and Tym treked to T.O with me to spend some time with friends and the rest of the million strong for Pride. Although I missed seeing the Dyke March myself, I hear that Tym was a regular hoot waving to everyone as she "marched" by proudly strapped to Deah''s back. We were able to spend some time at the Family Pride Picnic early Saturday morning. It was absolutly surreal seeing all these queer families and their little ones. Very comforting to know that Tym will have a great support network at her fingertips if she needs it.
Thoughts and wishes are sent to Great-Gramma (Marj) Atkinson recovering from a heart attack. Tym is awfully excited to see you in August and we are all grateful that you are making a speedy recovery. Be well and know that you are in our thoughts.
Tym is finally starting to be herself again. What a few days! She has 4 teeth to come in before her 2 years molars - all eye teeth. Apparently molars do not hurt nearly as bad as eye teeth to come in. From what we can tell from the quick glimpses we get into the drooly mouth - there are 2 teeth that are very swollen and look very angry - however they are no where near the top of her gum... Which means it could very well happen a few more times before they actually come in.
She is finally eating - so I was able to come back to work today. It will be a short week since I have Friday off and we are heading to TO.
Tym has not been herself at all... This afternoon she finally eat some food and stopped whineing. We think her fever has past - we hope!
Meag worked yesterday morning, and Tym and I went to a LeLecheLeague meeting. it was nice to sit around with moms who are raising their children the same way... Nice to give support to the new moms who are struggling.
I wanted to send out a Happy Birthday to my mom for tomorrow!! I hope that you have a wonderful time at supper tomorrow night, and don''t have to work to much tomorrow!
Today is Father''s Day. It is a weird day in our house... Are we suppose to celebrate Mother''s day twice? Do we celebrate dad''s day twice? Out of all of us - Meag is the only one with a living Dad - Happy Father''s Day Grampa from Tym!! Happy Father''s Day to my dad, who I miss greatly, it''s been 7 years since your death, and I miss you just as much everyday, and I wish you could celebrate being a Grandfather and see the wonder that will carry your name on. And last - but not least, Happy Fathers Day to all our male friends and family who continue to give love and support to our little family, and who give Tym the male role models that she loves :)
Tym has been sleeping horribly - which means I''ve been sleeping horribly. I went in late to work on Tuesday to try and catch an extra hour of sleep since she was up for over 3 hours the 2 nights before. Wednesday i stayed home with her.
Today I went in late because Meag had to take the car in... Then I get a call at 1:20 and I can''t even hear Meag over the screaming baby.. All I hear is sniffing and "Come home". I get home 25 minutes later and the baby had just stopped crying, poor Meag was still crying.
Tym is teething again... her temp is up, she hasn''t eaten solids all day and I couldn''t but her down.
Go figure - I was just talking with Janet at work today - her boy turns 1 next month... And told her that a fever was normal during teething.. And it gets easier... WHEN THEY ARE 18! :)
Of course - we get what is suppose to be a nice weekend weather wise... The first one in 6 weeks.. And Tym has a fever and is teething like mad! Will I ever get to enjoy a weekend with her?
We were out for supper at Matt and Sarah''s last night. At one point Deah got up from the table and mentioned she was going to give Tym some milk. Matt very politely said "I don''t know if there is any milk in the container but there is some way back in the fridge". Deah with a very straight face, looked at him, pointed to her boobs and said "I''ve got milk, thanks".
I almost fell out of my chair laughing.
When we first got there I think Tym thought she had died and gone to heaven. Matt and Sarah have three dogs - 2 of which are herding type dogs by nature. After a few minutes of checking out the situation from the safety of my arms, Tym quickly pushed against me for me to put her down. As swarmed as she promptly was by three licking and sniffing dogs, she smiled and laughed so hard that she couldn''t stand up! She spent the better part of the night "herding" the dogs themselves, teasing them with her dinner, and getting her hands doggy licked clean after dinner. The best part? She exhausted herself so much that she slept a near perfect 12 hours last night. For that, I owe Matt and Sarah one huge thank you for having us over - and when can we do it again!!!
I am home alone (with Tym sleeping) - Meag is at Wade''s at a Pampered Chef Party... i wonder how broke we will be by the time she gets home!!
It''s been a busy week as per usual... Many things I wanted to post about as they happened.. Now that I have a few minutes I can not think of any of them....
Oh - Tym made her first TV debut yesterday!! At lunch we went down to city hall to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of legally being able to marry... it was a good turn out... with loads of press there.. And low and behold there was precious shots of Tym! We are going to check the papers as well, it was so cute! YAY for being able to marry! Hopefully Harper won''t be able to take that basic right away from us...
Monday night we went to a Rainbow Famillies picnic.. it was our first time there and there were loads of other famillies their with kids. It was a blast. They usually get together once or twice a month - hopefully in the fall we will be able to go - all depends on Tym''s bedtime... it will be wonderful for her to have kids to hand around with later on who know what it''s like to have gay parents.
Tym is starting to say more words randomly. She says Jayda, ball, cat, mum, mama, and a few more which I can not remember right now. She is running up a storm. And is starting to do things you ask her now.. If I ask her to bring something to mum - she will bring it to her.. might not make it all the way if she gets distracted though! She is also starting to point out body parts.. Ok.. only her nose! but it''s a start :)
Her bum turned really red Friday - not sure why all of a sudden... Probably more teeth poking through somewhere... So in trying to tame the redness she''s been diaperless around the house a fair bit... Well let''s just say - don''t turn your back for 30 seconds because she might poop - and it might get EVERYWHERE!! Takes a lot longer to clean up the baby, and the living room then it took to make the mess!!
It''s truly amazing to see what a little girl she is turning into. Tony gets here in 2.5 weeks! The summer is almost here already! Hopefully we will get some good weekends soon so I can get to play outside with her since the past 4 weekends have been rainy!
What a wonderful 3 day weekend. It was great to have all the family time with my girls :) And of course Tym slept great Fri and Sat night and was up for 3 hours last night when I had to get up at 6 for work!! Oh well - that''s how it goes.
Jesse and Annie came over on Sat to play - Beth was sick at home :( It was fun to watch the kids play together. They are starting to play at lot better.
Yesterday we went to Diane''s and played with all her animals - Tym especially like Murphy - the 183lbs Mastiff. He is the biggest dog I''ve ever seen, but also the gentlist. (unless there was ice cream to be had!)
It''s crazy to think that it''s already Monday morning. The next long weekend we have together Meag will be working and Tym and I will be playing in TO pride :)
A wonderful three whole days of family time awaits Deah, Tym and I! Too bad the weather isn''t going to co-operate.
Deah and I are off for breakfast this morning while Jayda has Tym. It''ll be nice to sit across from each other and take our time eating and chatting without getting pelted with bits of food from Tym! She''s decided that her favorite way of telling us she is done eating is to literally clear her tray of all food - where said food lands in the process is always interesting. More than once I have seen Tigger go running with spaghetti, pear, chicken, tomatoe on his back.
The past few nights Tym has been right hilarious! She is figuring out how to run and loves being chased. Though 9 times out of 10 she ends up falling over because her little legs can''t keep up with her. I was chasing her last night and "wrestling" on the bed when I made her laugh so hard she farted on Deah! Ahh the stories I will have to tell her on her 16th Birthday.
Get well wishes are sent to Annie who is recovering from her first bout with strep throat. Poor little one! Tym sends gentle hugs and kisses (we''re really working on that!).
Our friends at Mombian (Sustenance for Lesbian Moms)(www.mombian.com) have proclaimed today, June 1st, as day to honor gay and lesbian families.
We are a lesbian family. 2 moms, 1 baby, 2 cats and a gender-bender nanny. We couldn''t be more happy. We are very thankful to live where we live - to have the options we do. In Canada we are legally married. Unfortunately, not all the laws have caught up with that yet - it does not mean that Meag is automatically Tym''s second legal parent, just a guardian. However, if we were in a straight rel''ship it would not even be questioned if she was the second parent. I guess it''s a little more apparent we used donor sperm! However the process is simple to make it legal. Just sign a few papers, give them to the court and give our lawyer a whack of cash.
At least it can happen here - without a fight.
The downsaides are sometimes we get asked "Who''s the ''real'' mom?" We both are! I just happen to breastfeed. Or "Who''s the father?" Ummmm we are lesbians - there is no father. She does have a sperm donor however - don''t confuse her by calling him Daddy.
We live in a place where we can walk down the street as a proud family and not feel out of place or get to many stares. We feel safe.
We live in a place where we are fortunate enough to know other lesbian moms and are able to share experiences. We would love to know more than 1 couple - we hear others are out there!
We are surrounded by friends and family who accept us as a family - blood ties or not- and love us regardless.
It''s amazing to me that here we are with a 14 month old running around the house, screaming at the dogs in the park and pulling the cats hair.
It makes my heart smile to be the lesbian family that we are.
